Spin your own rainbow or combine the colors in imaginative ways. This is another set of braids similar to our other color packs, but with a rainbow of colors. This pack has five 2 ounce braids, one in yellows and oranges, one in maroons, reds and/or pinks, one in blues and turquoises, one in purples and/or magentas, and the last in greens and/or olives.
These packs allow you to play with handling wide ranges of color. Get out of your color comfort zone! Try separating colors for interesting gradients, splitting different width strips, or fractal spinning. Test out color interactions with plying, such as complementary colors, tertiary colors, 2-ply or 3-ply. See how traditional artists’ color theory works or doesn’t work when spinning and plying. Or simply spin fabulous, unique skeins of yarn for that special project. These little two ounce braids provide lots of possibilities.
These make a great gift for a spinning pal.
Each braid will different and no two packs are alike. I will choose balanced color range to give you the most variety for experimentation. The photo shows one sample; the colors you receive be your own unique color combination.
BFL is a “multipurpose” sheep breed dating back from the early 1900’s which produce “litters” of three or four lambs with long loins. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. Fortunately, they also have a beautiful soft, long wool that is especially easy to spin, so they are raised to maturity for their lustrous fleeces. The dye colors are very vibrant on BFL, and it has a soft, luxurious feel.
This is Superwash, so it holds up well to washing, but it is not suitable for felting. The addition of 20% nylon improves durability. This is should work well for socks.
Fiber: 80% Superwash Blue Faced Leicester (BFL) wool / 20% Nylon
