This yarn is part of our Northwest Natural line of locally produced, natural color yarns. This yarn is made from Gotland and Gotland cross sheep wool raised by our friend Karin Lowe on her Lowe & Behold farm in Snohomish, Washington. We had it spun in a small mill in Oregon, making this a purely Pacific Northwest product
This is a naturally colored gray wool yarn, spun to a DK weight. Each skein is 200 yards and weighs about 125 grams.
This will be good for outer garments, and is perfect for your magical elven cloak or your Viking warrior cape, but will not be next-to-the-skin soft for sensitive people.
The last photo shows a small sample of this yarn knitted up, to give an idea of how it might look. The sample is not part of this listing.
Gotland are a primitive variety of sheep, originating on the Swedish island of the same name. Viking adventurers brought back Karakul sheep from Russia, and crossed them with the local landrace sheep to produce the Gotland. Lambs are born with black fleece, and turn gray as they mature. They have a long, dense staple, around 29-34 microns in diameter.
